Transit-TransKazakhstan 2010 A Forum to Discuss Transport Issues

Transit-TransKazakhstan opened on 7 September in Almaty.
The exhibition is considered the largest and most influential transport and logistics forum in Central Asia. It covers all aspects of the transport industry and is fully supported by the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Transit-TransKazakhstan takes place in Pavilion 9А of the Atakent Exhibition Centre and will be open for visitors until 9 September. Exhibitors include more than 80 companies from Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Switzerland and Ukraine. Latvian transport companies will be united on a group stand. The event is organised jointly by Atakent-Expo and Iteca.

The rail sector at Transit-TransKazakhstan 2010 will be represented by national operators from Kazakhstan (Kazakhstan Temir Zholy), Ukraine (Ukrzaliznytsya), Lithuania (Lietuvos Geležinkeliai) and Latvia (Latvijas Dzelzceļš). In addition, there will be companies from the shipping sector, including Aktau, Poti, Riga and Ventspils trading ports, and a large variety of shipping equipment manufacturers and companies specialising in shipment.

Every year, Transit-TransKazakhstan proves the ideal place to discuss important transport issues. This week, events and discussions will focus on a central topic, the development of the international transport industry in Eurasia. On 7 September, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy National Company is hosting a roundtable on the Development of Kazakhstan’s Export Potential. Then, on 8 September, there will be a workshop on Customs Operations within the Customs Union.

Abelgazi Kusainov, Minister of Transport and Communications of Kazakhstan, underlined the importance of the event: “Transit-TransKazakhstan, which highlights the potential development of transport and communications in Eurasia, provides a comprehensive overview of the whole transport and logistics industry, the development potential of Kazakhstan’s transport market and the growing volumes of shipments within Eurasia. It also enhances our country’s image as a transit country”.

“This exhibition will become particularly important once Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus have joined the Customs Union, fulfilling prospects for developing transport capacities throughout the member countries. At the same time, a number of large-scale activities will take place to develop the Kazakhstan branch of Western Europe – the Western China Transit Corridor”, says Vadim Verzhbitsky, department head of Russia’s Trade Mission in Almaty, Kazakhstan, in his welcome letter for the exhibitors.

Transit-TransKazakhstan will prove an exciting event both for professionals, who have an opportunity to learn about new ideas, technical and managerial solutions, and the latest innovations in the transport industry, and for the public, who will witness this progress in their everyday lives.

Kazakhstan is a major exporter of mineral resources, oil, gas, coal, and zinc, and imports consumer goods and food. The country’s main type of transport is rail, with 53% of total carrier turnover. Also, in terms of the rail tracks that are currently in use, Kazakhstan comes third in the CIS, after Russia and Ukraine.
