Transit-TransKazakhstan 2009, the main event of the transport and logistics industry in the region, took place on 16-18 September 2009 in Almaty.
The exhibition was held in Pavilion 10A of the Atakent Exhibition Centre. The event was organised by the Kazakhstani international exhibition companies Atakent Expo and Iteca, together with its UK partner ITE Group Plc, with the support and participation of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Kazakhstan. The exhibition was attended by more than 80 companies from Kazakhstan, Russia, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Turkey, Iran, Germany and other countries. On a major national stand, Latvian companies presented the entire transport infrastructure.
Transit-TransKazakhstan 2009 covered the whole transport industry: rail, sea, road and air transport; multimodal transport; ports; terminals; manufacturers of rolling stock; equipment for the transport of goods; logistics; and much more.
As always, a substantial part of the exhibition was occupied by the stands of domestic companies. Kazakhstan’s part of the exhibition included leading companies such as Kazakhstan Railways (KTJ), Kazaeronavigatsia, Kaztransservice JSC, Kaztemirtrans JSC, Aktau International Sea Commercial Port, Transsystem, Astana-Contract JSC and others.
Over the three days, the exhibition was attended by 2,383 specialists, including representatives from various spheres of the economy of Kazakhstan and its neighboring states.
On the second day of the event, 17 September, Kazakhstan Railways organised a roundtable as a special event within the exhibition. The Ministry of Transport and Communications of Kazakhstan, major Kazakhstani companies and freight forwarders, and the railway administrations of Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Uzbekistan, China and Russia took part in a discussion on the topic “Developing the export potential of the Republic of Kazakhstan”.
The issues discussed included the development of export goods transport through the ports of the Black and Baltic seas, and shippers' forecasts for future periods.
“A memorandum signed in May between Kazakhstan Railways and Russian Railways has already shown results. In August, transit increased by 2.7%, and we are very confident that, by the end of September, an increase of 8% will be achieved,” said Edil Iskakov, KTJ Marketing Director, at the roundtable.
Experts believe that increased goods traffic has been facilitated by an agreement on lowering tariffs for cargo transportation. According to the Vice President for Development at KTJ, Ermek Kizatov, Kazakhstan and Russia have reached an agreement to reduce the base transit transport rates by 8.8%. This agreement came into force on 1 July 2009.
The roundtable participants also discussed the development of export-import and transit traffic between Russia and Kazakhstan, the efficient use of container transportation by rail, the development of logistics and terminal processing, and steps to further develop the freight forwarding business.
Work continues to further develop and improve the transport infrastructure of all the types of cargo and passenger traffic. The progress made in this area is demonstrated at the international exhibitions and conferences held in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The industry’s main event, Transit-TransKazakhstan 2009, was no exception.
In September 2010, the Kazakhstani international exhibition companies Atakent Expo and Iteca, together with its UK partner ITE Group Plc, will hold Transit-TransKazakhstan, the Kazakhstan International Transport & Logistics Exhibition, in Astana.
